Ibrahim Athif Shakoor- a short profile

After a BA in Economics at the University of South Pacific, Fiji, and a MBA from Monash University, Australia, I have served at CEO level and Board Positions of some of the biggest and most diversified corporate entities of the Maldives including Allied Insurance Company, STO, MIFCO and MTCC plc., Dhiraagu plc., and the Utility Companies. I have also served  as a Board Director of the Capital Market Development Authority; CMDA and for a brief, but eventful period at MMA; the Central Bank of the country as the first Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit.

I and have been a consultant to some of the biggest corporate entities in the country and having served twice as the Managing Director of leading private firms in the food retail and whole business and have retired in 2020 and now earn my daily bread from consultancy assignments.

In the past, I have been fortunate to serve as the first Secretary General of the International Pole and Line Foundation and am a Charter Member of the first and the only Rotary Club to service the country.

My love affair with matters economic goes beyond 20 years, with publications in the leading newspapers of the country some of which articles are available at this blogsite. Together with a group of like minded individuals I have worked to heighten the awareness of Economic Issues with the Economic Desk website and successfully completed a 15 episode economic awareness program with the National TV  channel in 2015.

I have always been in interested in academia and for a period of 5 years have enjoyed being a Part-time Lecturer at the Faculty of Management and Computing of the Maldivian National University lecturing on Business Entrepreneurship and Maldivian Business Environment to final year degree students and to MBA students at Villa College.

In 2019, together with former governor of MMA, we launched the Maldives Economic Review; a quarterly journal with its journals available for download at mer.mv

I am in a modest measure, a writer and an essayist and my love affair with matters relating to the economy continues, albeit without much consistency.
