The fishery industry of the country had fed us and sustained our economy from time past. With the changes brought to the landscape in the early 1090’s, the industry has changed dramatically.
With the never-ending, ever changing political dynamics, shaping the expectations of the fishing community and the public, it is important to try and separate noise and to try and understand the reasons that generate much of the confusion.
Following are personal thoughts following from having served 9 years in the industry and being an ardent believer that the fishing industry does continue to play a larger, unacknowledged role in the Maldivian economy that is not not clearly seen in GDP figures.
